August 7, 2004: Last night I drove back down from the Bryce area to the boonies west of St. George. I went far down in elevation, and back in time. After all these years of not really doing geology, I'm glad to see that geology still "works." The outcrop looked like flaser bedding, indicative of tidal flat deposits. Upon closer inspection, sure enough, there was some gypsum and soft sediment deformation that looks like mini-teepees. A quick flip though the geologic guidebook says that's what's supposed to be in part of the Moenkopi.
