Poison Ivy

There's something funny about this tree. It's not half dead. It's a completely dead pine tree.
Poison ivy has crawled up the tree and kind of turned into a "tree" of its own.
The question is, did the tree die from the poison ivy, or did the poison ivy use the
dead tree skeleton for support?
